BS in Agricultural Science

Course Description

The Bachelor of Science in agriculture program provides three concentration options:

  • Crop Production;
  • Rangeland Management; and Animal Husbandry.

In addition to the agriculture-specific technical courses, students will take a multiplicity of math and science courses, general agriculture-related courses, and university core courses to develop well-rounded skills and knowledge. This program has a strong applied component where students undergo well-guided and supervised learning experiences in various university labs, the green house, or an experimental farm.

Career Opportunities:

Holders of Bachelor of Science in agriculture with concentrations in either crop production, rangeland management, or animal husbandry after four years of study, will have a wide range of career options in Somalia, including: Agronomists (soil management and crop production), farm managers, agricultural researchers, agricultural instructors/trainers, farm manager, technical consultants, marketing professionals, agribusiness managers, farm and agribusiness owners, etc.

Where do graduates of the Bachelor of Science in agriculture often work?

Graduates of this degree might work in government ministries and agencies, international relief and development organizations, private agribusiness and consultancies, food production companies, and research and development organizations. Graduates can also start their own successful business in Agriculture in Somalia where opportunities are ripe for the taking.
